Preparation
- Preheat the oven according to the package instructions for your pie dough.
- Roll out the pie dough on a floured surface, and fit it snugly into your pie dish.
- Combine sugar, cinnamon, eggs, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, orange zest, and salt in a mixing bowl. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
- Stir in the sweetened condensed milk slowly until completely smooth.
- Pour the pumpkin mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 55 minutes or until the center is set.
- Cool the pie completely on a wire rack, then refrigerate until it’s nicely chilled.
- Whip the heavy cream in a separate bowl until soft peaks form.
- Fold in the confectioners sugar, vanilla bean paste, bourbon, nutmeg, and orange zest carefully until just combined.
- Serve the pie topped with the whipped cream and caramelized sugar if desired.
