How to Make Fig, Bacon & Caramelized Onion Grilled Cheese
- Cook the Bacon: Begin by placing the bacon strips in a skillet over medium heat. Cook them until they're crispy and golden brown, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Caramelize the Onions: In the same skillet, add your sliced sweet onion. Cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes until the onions are soft and golden.
- Add Flavor: Stir in the balsamic vinegar, honey, fresh thyme, and freshly ground black pepper to the caramelized onions. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until sticky.
- Layer the Ingredients: Grab two slices of the sourdough bread and layer the crispy bacon, caramelized onion mixture, shredded cheese, and sliced figs. Place another slice on top.
- Grill the Sandwiches: Heat the skillet over medium heat. Grill the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden and the cheese has melted.
