For the Royal Icing
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 4 tbsp Meringue Powder
  • 1/2 cup Water or as needed
  • as needed Gel Food Coloring various colors
For Decoration
  • 1 Edible Red Marker
  • 1 Small Heart Cookie Cutter

Method
 

How to Make Conversation Heart Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the softened butter, cream cheese, and granulated sugar in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg and both extracts until fully combined.
  4. Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients gradually.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and use the small heart cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
  7. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool the cookies completely on a wire rack before decorating.
  10. Prepare the royal icing by mixing powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water.
  11. Color your icing with gel food coloring as desired.
  12. Decorate your cookies with the royal icing and use the red edible marker for messages.
