  • 1.5 cups sugar divided
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar

For the Coating
  • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup remaining sugar for rolling

How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Crackle Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together 1 cup of shortening and 1-1/2 cups of sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the 2 large eggs, one at a time.
  4. Sift together 2-3/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture gradually.
  6. Mix 4 teaspoons of ground cinnamon with the remaining sugar in a small bowl.
  7. Roll the dough into balls, about 1-inch in diameter, and coat each in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Place the coated dough balls on a baking sheet.
  9. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  10. Cool the cookies on a wire rack.
