How to Make Chewy Pretzel Bites
  1. Combine ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together warm milk, dark brown sugar, melted butter, and traditional yeast until fully combined.
  2. Mix dough: Add the flour and salt to the mixture. Stir until a soft dough starts to form.
  3. Knead the dough: Lightly flour your work surface and knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
  4. Let it rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm area for about 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven: While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. Boil water: In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a rolling boil and stir in the baking soda.
  7. Shape the bites: Divide the risen dough into small pieces and roll each into a ball.
  8. Boil the bites: Carefully drop the dough balls into the boiling water-baking soda mixture for about 30 seconds.
  9. Brush with egg: Use a pastry brush to coat each pretzel bite with beaten egg.
  10. Bake: Place the pretzel bites on a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
