  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds

  • whisk
  • baking sheet
  • Kitchen towel

Method

Dough Preparation
  1. Combine all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk together.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix warm water with remaining sugar and instant yeast, letting it sit until frothy.
  3. Beat 2 of the large eggs in a bowl and add to the yeast mixture along with vegetable oil.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough begins to form.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size for about 1 hour.
  7. Punch down the dough gently, then divide it into three equal pieces.
  8. Roll each piece into a long strand of even size to create a braid.
  9. Braid the three strands together and pinch the ends to seal.
  10. Place the braided dough on a baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  12. Brush the dough with remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame and poppy seeds.
  13. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
