For the Cauliflower
  • 1 head Cauliflower florets
  • 2 teaspoons Soy sauce opt for low-sodium
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup can swap with tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Oil neutral oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch can use arrowroot powder
For the Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Oil for sautéing
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced or roasted garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, minced
  • 2 pieces Dried red chilies adjust to spice preference
  • 0.5 cup Red onion, chopped
  • 1 stalk Celery, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon White pepper optional
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup Water to adjust consistency
For the Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Green onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds, sprinkled

Method
 

How to Make Black Pepper Cauliflower
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Toss the cauliflower florets in a bowl with oil, soy sauce, ketchup, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and cornstarch.
  3. Spread the coated cauliflower on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for about 25-28 minutes.
  4. Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the minced garlic, ginger, and dried red chilies for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add the chopped red onion and celery to the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Stir in the soy sauce, maple syrup, additional black pepper, white pepper, cornstarch, and water.
  7. Combine the baked cauliflower with the sauce in the pan and gently toss to coat.
  8. Serve the dish garnished with sliced green onion and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
