Cooking Instructions
  1. In a large pot, mix the beef brisket, 6 cups of water, chopped onion, 4 minced garlic cloves, soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, bay leaves, and the optional star anise. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, until the beef is tender.
  2. In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, cooking until fragrant and the onion is translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Then, stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar, cooking for a few more minutes.
  3. Mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Add this to your sautéed mixture, stirring constantly until it thickens to a glossy consistency.
  4. Dish out the tender beef with the hearty sautéed mixture over 2 cups of fluffy cooked rice. Garnish with chopped green onions for a delightful crunch and finish with salt and pepper to your taste.
